7 cut-price players for Premier League clubs to target in January

In January transport market is clearly difficult to dominate. Even the most respected recruiting teams struggle to navigate the minefield.

The winter market is generally centered around desperation, with clubs eager to solve problems that arose during the first half of the campaign. With teams loathe to lose their best and brightest mid-season, valuations often skyrocket.

However, there is still plenty of value to be uncovered during the January window, with unknown stars being sold and players entering the final six months of their contracts.

Here are the discounted offers that Premier League the sides could target January 2025.

Jonathan David

Suitable clubs: Arsenal, United, Tottenham
Possible pay: £15-20m

Only Robert Lewandowski, Harry Kane and Erling Haaland plundered more goals than Jonathan David in 2024. The Canada international scored 36 in 50 appearances during the calendar year – an impressive return considering he was playing for Lille.

David has naturally attracted the interest of Europe’s elite clubs and the expiry of his current contract this summer means he is available to discuss his future with other clubs this winter.

While the temptation will be to wait until the end of the season and sign the 24-year-old on a free transfer, paying cash in January could guarantee the centre-forward’s signature.

Suitable clubs: Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester City, United
Possible pay: £20-25m

Speaking of Canadian internationals out of contract this summer, Alphonso Davies enters. While Bayern Munich are desperate to tie down the left-back on new terms, there is a growing feeling that this could be the 24-year-old’s final campaign in Bavaria.

Real Madrid and Barcelona are showing significant interest in Davies. especially the first onebut the Premier League could prove an equally desirable destination for the defender.

Like David, the Bayern man will be available on a free in the summer, but a £20-25m cut in January could force a move. There are plenty of Premier League sides clamoring for left-back reinforcements.

Danny Olmo

Suitable clubs: Arsenal, Manchester City
Possible pay: Loan agreement

Barcelona’s ongoing battle to sign summer signing Dani Olmo – still unresolved despite the fact that Spain’s national sports council ruled positively – leaves the Spaniard’s future up in the air.

Having dazzled in his £51million move to Catalonia, the Euro 2024 winner looks unlikely to leave the club on a permanent deal, but a loan spell for the second half of the campaign could be sanctioned if Barca’s push for registration of Olmos.

There are plenty of Premier League sides who would enjoy the addition of the highly talented Olmo for the final months of the season, especially the likes of Arsenal and Manchester City who have lacked creativity for long periods this season.

Randall Cole Mouaney

Suitable clubs: United, Tottenham, West Ham
Possible pay: Loan agreement

Randal Kolo Muani quickly fell out of favor at Paris Saint-Germain under Luis Enrique and now looks a long way from the imposing and speedy centre-forward who wowed Eintracht Frankfurt. He has scored just twice in 14 appearances for the Ligue 1 champions this season.

A January exit is looking increasingly likely and both Manchester United and Tottenham have expressed an interest in signing the France international on loan for the remainder of the campaign.

Juventus are also exploring a move, but the lure of the Premier League could prove too tempting for Kolo Muani, who could rebuild his career at one of England’s elite.

With his contract also set to expire this summer, Bayer Leverkusen are reportedly willing to let Jonathan Tah, one of the key players during their remarkable 2023/24 campaign, leave the BayArena for just 12.5 £ million in January. Now that’s a deal.

The towering centre-half may turn 29 this February, but he is in his prime and was so close to joining Bayern Munich in the summer. Barcelona has also shown interest.

Chelsea, Manchester City and Manchester United are among the Premier League sides currently in the hunt for central defensive cover and £12.5m is a steal for a player of Tah’s immense quality and consistency.

Douglas Louise

Suitable clubs: Aston Villa, Manchester United, City, Nottingham Forest
Possible pay: £21m

Douglas Luiz has earned his lucrative move to Juventus after several impressive seasons at Aston Villa. However, after just six months in Turin, an exit could already be on the cards for the Brazilian midfielder.

With Juventus reportedly keen to recoup the £21million they spent in the summer – with a number of players heading to Villa Park as part of the deal – Luiz could be available for a bargain price.

A return to Villa is not out of the question, while Manchester City, who Luiz represented early in his career, could see the diminutive defensive midfielder as the perfect replacement for Rodry for the second half of the season.

Marcus Rashford

Possible pay: 35 million £ or loan

Marcus Rashford’s clash with Man Utd means January could see an exit from Old Trafford for the Red Devils. Europe seems a likely destination, with Italian clubs and Borussia Dortmund reportedly at the front of the tail.

Rashford could be available for as little as £35m, which would prove a steal if he can recapture his strongest form. A loan switch until the end of the campaign also remains a distinct possibility.

West Ham, now managed by Graham Potter, are one of the clubs interested in the 27-year-oldwhich could prove a smart signature in the right environment.
