Shakur accuses Gervonta Davis of avoiding top competition

Shakur Stevenson slammed Gervonta Davis in an interview, pointing out that he has used weight terms on his opponents and faces “less talented fighters” to make himself look better than he is.
WBC lightweight champion Stevenson (22-0, 10 KOs) was incensed when told Gervonta was unimpressed with his record and asked what he has done in his career to want to fight him. Tank shut down any possibility of a fight against Shakur, considering him unworthy to meet the King. This is true. Shakur is completely unfit to be in his presence.
It’s Shakur’s promoter Eddie Hearn who has been discussing the idea of fighting Tank Davis in 2025. Hearn has 2025 planned for the Newark, New Jersey native, talking about him fighting these three:
- Floyd Scofield
- William Zepeda
- Gervonta Davis
Now, Shakur is even babbling like a fight with Tank Davis is a foregone conclusion, without saying anything. Tank is like, “What is this guy talking about?” Shakur is like a spoiled child, used to getting what he wants and being hurt when someone says no.
Stevenson needs to give Edwin De Los Santos a rematch, prove he can fight without running and then face Andy Cruz. The Cuban talent is a better version of Shakur but with offense, power and a willingness to engage. If Cruz were a computer, he’d be the next generation over Shakur, a clumsy, outdated 2000-level model who freezes on pages.

“He just doesn’t seem real. No disrespect to him, but I’m a real person. I’m not going to go out there and act like Tank’s not a good fighter,” Shakur Stevenson told Boxing newsreacting when told that Gervonta Davis said he wasn’t impressed with his record and shut down rumors of the two meeting in the ring because he sees no value in fighting Shakur.
“The same way he’s asking what I’ve done for the sport of boxing, I think he should look in the mirror and ask the same question why is it like what you’ve done?” Shakur continued for Tank Davis. “Even the guys you knocked out all have a weight clause, a weight clause. It looks good to the public and people who don’t know, but I’m a fighter. I know what’s going on. I know what you’re doing.
“You take the less talented fighters and put them in the ring with you and make them look like they’re on his level, but they’re not. Until he fights an elite-level fighter, I don’t want to hear anything from him,” Shakur said.
What Gervoda says is 100% true. Who has Shakur fought during his career? Nobody good. He beat some washed-up fighters at 130, captured three paper titles against weak opposition, and has looked awful since moving up to 135. He was booed out of the arena in his fight against Edwin De Los Santos and the fans walked out in the lead up to his last fight against weak puncher Artem Harutyunyan last July at his hometown of Newark.
“Fight someone I fought!”
“He (Tank) acted like he couldn’t get a lot of people in the ring. Why didn’t he try to get Edwin De Los Santos? Why not a fight you want? Since you want to talk bad about me, fight someone I fought. And you talked about my performance doing it. So get over me,” Shakur said.
Edwin De Los Santos wouldn’t do anything for him and his career because the guy hasn’t fought in 14 months. He would be coming off a loss to Stevenson and by the time Gervoda fought him in August or September, he would be out of action for 21 months.
Shakur’s stock has plummeted since he was exposed as a chicken runner by De Los Santos on November 16, 2023. He did nothing to turn things around by fighting him in a rematch or looking valiant in his next fight against the light-hitting Arten Harutyunyan.
