Ange Postecoglou doubles in Tottenham Second Season Trophy
The director of Tottenham Hotspur, Ange Postecoglou, defended his previous insistence that he “always wins things” in his second year in a club.
August, a week before the first game of the Premier League second season at Spurs, Postcoglou insisted: “Usually in my second season I win things. This is the whole idea. The first year is about establishing principles and creating a foundation. We hope that the second year will win things.”
Postecoglou reminded his comments before the season a month later, immediately after one Northern London derby defeat at Arsenal. “I don’t usually win things,” he replied. “I always win things in my second year.”
As Spurs prepare for their second leg Europa League Last-16 Link vs Az Alkmaar On Thursday night, which represents the final avenue of the Club for Silver, Postecoglou was again asked if he regretted such a bold statement. “My opinion was always that when you asked you a question, you answer,” he raised. “I didn’t do anything. He asked me a question, I answered this question.
“People have used it for their own purposes suggesting that I made a bold claim, but I wasn’t.
“What did I say?” I always won the second year, I have in the past everywhere, but will not happen here? “Is that what people want to hear?
“People can twist these things and use them. People just use it in the way they want, depending on the circumstances.
“I will always answer things in the way I feel comfortable answering them. I am really comfortable and proud of the fact that I have won things everywhere. I think it is something I wouldn’t sit here if I didn’t.
