Apple is working on a smart doorbell system that could unlock your door with Face ID

Apple has developed a smart doorbell and lock system that will use Face ID to unlock the door for known residents, Mark Gurman reports in the newsletter. The face-scanning doorbell connects to a smart door lock, which could include existing HomeKit-compatible third-party locks, according to Gurman. Or, Apple can “(team up) with a specific lock manufacturer to offer a complete system on day one.”
It will probably still be a while before we see the bell tower lock system hit the market, though, if we ever see it. Gurman reports that it is in the early stages of development and would not be ready until at least the end of next year. The doorbell will help Apple compete with the likes of Amazon’s Ring and Google Nest, and is just one of several smart home products Apple is working on, according to Gurman. The company is also said to have developed a security camera for the interior of the house, which could work which is expected to make its debut as soon as next year.
