Are England’s stars at risk for PSL 2025? Players require NOC clarity from ECB
England players are seeking clarification from the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) on whether they will receive No-Objection Certificates (NOCs) to take part in the upcoming Pakistan Super League (PSL) season. They are in discussions with the ECB regarding NOCs after they were sent off during the draft in Lahore for the Pakistan Super League 2025 (PSL 2025).
James Vince was retained by Karachi Kings while Chris Jordan and David Willey were also retained by Multan Sultans for the upcoming PSL 2025. On the other hand, Peshawar Zalmi signed Tom Kohler-Cadmore as a draft while Sam Billings and Tom Curran drew the Lahore Calendars on Monday, January 13 for the upcoming season.
England players seek clarity from ECB on NOCs for PSL 2025
Well, Pakistan Super League has decided to move the tournament window from its past as the upcoming PSL 2025 will be held in April-May and will clash with the start of the English season for the first time. The County Championship Division One is set to begin on March 4, while PSL 2025 will begin on April 10 with the final to be played on May 25.
But the real frustration among players is that the ECB announced a new NOC policy in November last year to defend their game, whereby players will not receive NOCs for overseas leagues held during English summer, including the PSL. CPL and MLC.
However, ECB gave relaxation for IPL. The Professional Cricket Association (PCA) later expressed its disappointment and said the NOC’s new policy was damaging their relationship with the England and Wales Cricket Board.
Sam Billings and Tom Curran among top England players to receive NOCs
Meanwhile, a report by ESPNCricinfo has suggested that top England players like Sam Billings, Tom Curran, Chris Jordan and David Willey are expected to receive NOCs from the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) for the upcoming Super League of Pakistan, despite new policy restrictions. .
It is said that the England and Wales Cricket Board’s “consultation group” will consider the requests based on criteria set out last November. PSL-bound players, who are either on white-ball contracts or ready to renegotiate their multi-format contracts, are likely to get NOCs.
However, things are more complicated for Tom Kohler-Cadmore and James Vince, as they currently have contracts of all shapes and sizes with Somerset and Hampshire respectively. If Tom Kohler-Cadmore and James Vince manage to get NOCs from the ECB, they will miss the first six games of the upcoming County Championship Division One 2025.
Progress has been made in several application areas: PCA
On the other hand, it is confirmed that Jonny Bairstow and Adil Rashid will not get the NOCs for PSL 2025. However, the Professional Cricket Association (PCA) is finding a middle ground to solve the NOC issue with the legal team, players and England and Wales Cricket.
A PCA spokesperson was quoted as saying by ESPNCricinfo: “Following the announcement of the NOC policy and its proposed implementation, the PCA is working with its members, the legal team and the ECB, collectively representing the current players to find solutions for the limitations. Progress has been made in various application areas. However, each NOC request is on a case-by-case basis and there is still ongoing consultation.”
