AUS vs IND: Fans troll Rishabh Pant for poor show with bat on Day 3 of Christmas Day Test

Rishabh pants he is known for his unconventional batting style and out-of-the-box technique. However, the young wicket-keeper batsman’s unique style is not effective for the team all the time. Something similar happened on day 3 of the 4th test of the course Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

Rishabh Pant could not give the Indian team a go in the hour of need

Pant resumed the Indian innings on day 3 of the fourth Test with Ravindra Jadeja. The duo looked set for a solid partnership and added 30 runs in the Indian innings. Just when it looked like the Indian innings would make a comeback, Pant, in his familiar style, opted for a return shot against Scott Boland moving away from the portal. Pant, who failed while attempting the same shot in the previous delivery, was again unsuccessful in Boland’s fourth delivery. The wicketkeeper batsman played the ball towards deep third man and gave him a simple catch Nathan Lyon. The Indian team looked vulnerable at the time of Pant’s dismissal with just 191 runs on board for the loss of 6 wickets, behind the Australian total of 283 runs.

The 27-year-old’s dismissal also proved disheartening for Jadeja at the other end. The all-rounder departed soon after Pant’s dismissal and failed to establish another partnership Nitish Reddy. Jadeja departed after scoring 17 runs off 51 balls. It has been a tough series for Pant with the bat. The keeper’s dynamic batsman has only scored 124 races in four Test matches in the series so far at an average of 20.66.

Fans roast Pant for his irresponsible shot selection

Pant’s dismissal was a bone of contention for Indian fans and analysts alike. The timing of his dismissal led to further reactions from the cricketing community. The remarkable reaction came from the former Indian cricketer and legend Sunil Gavaskar who while commenting for the ABC Radio with Harsha Bhogle called Pant’s trait selection ‘Stupid’. He further criticized the 27-year-old for throwing away his wicket at a crucial time.
