ChatGPT can now be configured to perform scheduled tasks

ChatGPT has a new feature called Tasks that allows you to set recurring actions for a future time or set reminders, OpenAI said in a press release on Tuesday.

Features include the ability to have ChatGPT give you weekly news or daily weather updates, according to OpenAI. Other tasks might include having ChatGPT remind you in six months that your passport will expire or making up jokes for children every day at 6pm.

OpenAI referenced a post on X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter, when asked for comment.

The latest rollout of features from OpenAI comes as other AI companies also seek to differentiate themselves in a competitive market. Perplexity, an AI-powered search engine, has introduced a integration with Tripadvisor last week to populate the results with information from Tripadvisor users. The Google TV platform is getting Gemini AI integrations later this year, which will allow people to ask their TV questions as they would on their phones. Meta is also looking for more ways to give people AI, like potentially bringing Meta AI to WhatsApp users.

These measures make AI more ubiquitous in users’ lives and also increase companies’ valuations. The puzzle was valued around $500 million at the beginning of 2024 and ran until $60 billion at the end of the year, while Anthropic tripled its valuation to $9 billion in the same time. While these are impressive numbers, neither can match the meteoric rise of OpenAI, which has been rated $157 billion in October, almost doubling in less than a year. As The integration of ChatGPT with Apple Intelligence comes into greater focus as features are continuously implemented, OpenAI’s valuation may grow further.

At the moment, Tasks is currently in beta and will be rolled out to Plus, Team and Pro users in the coming days. Tasks will be available on desktop, web and mobile, but the task manager can only be accessed via a web browser. OpenAI says it’s limiting this feature to paid subscribers so it can understand how people use the feature before rolling it out to free users.
