Donald Trump Jr. in Greenland on “private visit” after father suggests that the United States should buy territory from Denmark

President-elect Donald Trump’s son, Donald Jr., arrived in Greenland on Tuesday on his father’s “Trump Force One” plane, weeks after his father. the father again expressed the desire of the United States to take control of the Danish autonomous territory. The visit comes just a day after Mr Trump suggested the people of the vast region were “MAGA”, in a post on social media.
“Just here as tourists,” Trump Jr. he told reporters as he entered the airport in Greenland’s capital, Nuuk, on Tuesday. “We’ve been talking about going for a while. I actually had to be here last spring for some of the things I do in my spare time, but I’m just really excited to be here. Great country.”
He was quickly asked about his father, who declared the desire to make Greenland part of the United States, but he answered only to say that the president of the second term, “says hello.”
“We talked to him yesterday, so he says hello to everyone in Greenland,” Trump Jr. said.

“The visit of Donald Trump Jr. is a private visit and that has been respected by Naalakkersuisut – the Government of Greenland. Therefore, there will be no reactions to the visit,” Mininguaq Kleist, Greenland’s permanent secretary for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. , he told CBS News before his arrival on Tuesday. “Our country is open for visits, and visitors are welcome in our beautiful country.”
Reuters, citing a source familiar with the trip, said Trump Jr. he had planned to shoot the content for a podcast, and that he visited only for a day.
On Monday, President-elect Trump he said in a social media post that he was, “saying that the people of Greenland are “MAGA”. My son, Don Jr, and many representatives, travel there to visit some of the most magnificent areas and sights Greenland is an incredible place, and the people have to benefit greatly if, and when, he becomes part of our Nation He will protect him, and love him, from a very vicious outside world.
Greenland has a population of about 57,000 and is a fully autonomous territory of the Kingdom of Denmark. It has oil, natural gas and mineral resources, but its economy is dependent on subsidies from Denmark and fishing.
President-elect Trump had expressed interest in buying Greenland during his first term, although the idea was quickly rejected by the Danish authorities.
Two weeks ago, Trump said on social media that “for purposes of National Security and Freedom around the world, the United States of America feels that ownership and control of Greenland is an absolute necessity.”
The government of Greenland has twice rejected claims of interest in the territory by Mr. Trump, along with Prime Minister Mute Egede. saying just before Christmas that “Greenland is ours. We are not for sale and we will never be for sale.”
Last week, Egede delivered a New Year’s speech urging Greenland to throw off “the shackles of colonialism” and gain full independence from Denmark.
“It’s time to take a step ourselves and shape our future, including with whom we will cooperate closely, and who will be our business partners,” said Egede.
A Greenlandic lawmaker in Denmark’s parliament, Aaja Chemnitz, said Trump’s interest should be dismissed, Reuters reported.
“I don’t want to be a pawn in Trump’s warm dreams of expanding his empire to include our country,” Chemnitz said.
