‘Emotional’ Ruben Amorim issues warning to Marcus Rashford over interview comments

Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has warned Marcus Rashford that he should have expressed his desire for a “new challenge” privately, rather than creating a media storm with his public comments.

After Rashford was dropped from the matchday squad for the Manchester derby, the striker hinted at a desire to leave the clubdescribing his departure as a case of “when”, rather than “if”.

Rashford’s comments unsurprisingly dominated Amorim’s press conference on Wednesday, the first half of which saw the new boss. underlines his desire to keep the 27-year-old and reiterates his position that the door is not closed on Rashford.

The questions about Rashford continued, with Amorim later asking him how he would have handled a similar situation during his playing days.

“I would talk to the manager,” Amorim said.

He continued: “It’s hard to explain what I’m going to do. I’m a bit excited. I need to prepare for the game (Thursday against Tottenham) and then we’ll see. We focus on the team, not individual players.”

Rashford is understood to have been left out of the squad again Quarter-finals of the Carabao Cup on Thursday.

Amorim did his best to focus on the next game and admitted that Rashford’s comments had left him in a difficult situation.

“It’s a difficult situation to comment on,” he said. “If I give a lot of importance, it will get big headlines in the papers and if I say it’s not a problem, my standards are going down. My aim is not to take the attention away from the game and the team and what we did. ‘last match’.
