EU will defend borders, says French minister in response to Trump’s threats in Greenland

French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot said the EU will not allow any country to “attack its sovereign borders”, after Donald Trump refused to rule out taking Greenland by force.

Asked about the prospect of the invasion of Danish territory by the United States, Barrot told France Inter radio station: “There is obviously no question that the European Union will let other nations in the world, who are, and I say to start with Russia. We are a strong continent, we need to strengthen it.

He added that he did not expect Trump to invade Greenland, but added that Europe needed to “wake up” to a more insecure world.
