Everton v Tottenham Hotspur: Preview, Predictions and Lineups

Two Premier League champions meet at Goodison Park on Sunday afternoon as Tottenham travel to Everton.

These historic clubs have been shy in modern times, and perhaps both clubs see a little of themselves in the other. The pair of inherently pessimistic fans have endured dismal 2024/25 campaigns so far, although many would argue that Everton are living up to pre-season expectations.

Sean Dyche left the Toffees in 16th place in the table and just above the drop zone. David Moyes has since stepped in as his successor, but the returning Scot oversaw a 1-0 defeat at Aston Villa in midweek.

Spurs’ barren run in the Premier League continued on Wednesday as Arsenal prevailed 2-1 in the North London derby at the Emirates. Sunday’s visitors remain depleted, but Ange Postecoglou just needs to oversee an uptick in results soon.

They remain in all cup competitions – Postecoglou’s saving grace – but Spurs’ return to five points from a possible 29 from their previous nine league outings can only be described as a form of relegation.

Here it is 90 minutes guide for sunday Premier League conflict.

David Moyes

Everton He’ll soon have Dwight McNeil and James Garner available again, but the pair are set to miss Sunday with respective knee and back injuries.

Seamus Coleman has also been struggling with muscle problems and is doubtful for Tottenham’s visit, while strikers Youssef Cermiti and Armando Brocha are sidelined. Dominic Calvert-Lewin is likely to stay up top despite his wasteful display in midweek. Moyes has Beto as an alternative.

Nathan Patterson could come in for Ashley Young at right-back, with Jesper Lindstrom also pushing for a start in attack.

Everton predicted line-up against Tottenham (4-2-3-1): Pickford? Patterson, Tarkowski, Branthwaite, Mykolenko; Gueye, Mangala; Lindstrom, Doucoure, Ndiaye; Calvert-Lewin.

Richarlison

Richarlison came off the bench in the derby after a couple of months out with a hamstring injury. Son Heung-min scored on Wednesday but he has underperformed this season and we could soon see the Brazilian emerge as a genuine option on the left for Postecoglou.

Ben Davies could return to the matchday squad on Sunday, but Spurs will likely have to stick with the same makeshift defense at Goodison Park. Brennan Johnson is a sudden doubt with a calf injury further forward.

Wilson Odobert, William Vicar, Christian Romero, Micky van de Ven, Rodrigo Bentancur and Timo Werner are all out injured.

Tottenham predicted line-up against Everton (4-3-3): Kinsky? Porro, Dragusin, Gray, Spence; Bissouma, Bergvall, Maddison; Kulusevski, Solanke, Son.

Can both teams lose?

Moyes’ Everton won’t be too dissimilar to Dyche’s iteration and will remain a tough team to beat, especially at Goodison. The Toffees would have picked up a point on Wednesday had Calvert-Lewin returned to his early 2020/21 self rather than the version he has appeared since.

Spurs should enjoy control and territory here, but have hardly proven they are capable lock pickers against compact defences. Their problems from set-pieces have not been as noticeable compared to last season, but the home side will no doubt be looking to dominate from such situations on Sunday.

All results are on the table here, but the visitors can walk away with a desperately needed three points.

Prediction: Everton 1-2 Tottenham
