Everything Samsung announced this week (and future device teases)

Welcome to a new newsletter, with a bit of a new direction. While our midweek edition deals with specific news, this weekend missive combines the bigger news with more context, more things to read and watch, tips, Easter eggs, baseball and things that interest our readers, alongside the latest news, reviews and features you’ve come to expect from Engadget.
We’d love your feedback on what you’d like to see covered in these meatier editions – drop me a line at tma(at)engadget.com.
Lucky for me, we’re kicking things off with Samsung’s big Unpacked event, launching three new phones and teasing two — yes, two! – sooner.
Everything Samsung has announced, including pricing and launch dates (February 8th – I’ll save you a click), we’ve collected herebut it’s been largely a year of may for Galaxy S hardware, save for a substantially more powerful chip.
While the Galaxy S25 Ultra et al. Could not thrill, Samsung has managed to breadcrumb several devices without a launch date. First, at its San Jose event, the company revealed in person its mixed reality headset, finally – even if it was just a non-functioning headset for photos and look.
Then there was the Galaxy S25 Edge – a device I didn’t think existed. (And something that wasn’t shown at my satellite event in London – we had a not-so-great projection mapping brand activation in London’s River Thames. Boo.)
As Samsung did a year ago with its Galaxy Ring teaser, we got a glimpse of the rumored Galaxy slim phone, actually called Galaxy S25 Edge. It’s slim, has two cameras and… that’s all we know. Bloomberg reports that it will cost less than the S25 Ultra when it arrives later this year.
And then there’s the mysterious teaser for a possible bifold device – see the screengrab above. This would be a foldable concertina, like the devices we have seen from Huawei. Samsung has rocked display technology at CES 2022 and subsequent business events. Is it ready now?
Will the company’s foldables become the new home for Samsung hardware innovation? Is the Galaxy Fold series now really the new Galaxy Note?
