CNET crowned Belatro its Game of the Year, and rumors of a Switch successor filled the headlines. But now we are waiting for what is yet to come. Here’s everything we’re excited about in the game in 2025. The most hyped product we can’t wait to get our hands on is the upcoming and still untitled Switch 2. The original Nintendo Switch was released in 2017 with a slightly updated OLED model. There is no planned release date for the next console yet, but Nintendo president Shantaro Furukawa has said that the new device will be announced sometime this fiscal year, giving us a deadline of March 31, 2025. Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman says the announcement was planned weeks ago but was delayed for an unknown reason. The partnership will also include Apple selling the controllers separately from any headset, something Sony doesn’t currently offer. Vision Pro is largely a controller-less experience, so this move could open the door for more VR gaming experiences in the future. Apple isn’t just doing this for games, the report says. Controllers will be able to control Vision Pro’s Vision OS and offer more precise control for various applications. Both Microsoft and Sony have mentioned that they are working on a dedicated gaming device, but both said that device is years away at this point. It almost seems like a no-brainer when we look at how popular the Nintendo Switch and Steam Deck have become. It’s unlikely that these will actually ship or even be officially announced in 2025, but never say never, right? Sony’s report includes features targeting PS5-quality games for a handheld that’s currently pretty hard to pull off in a small and not-crazy-expensive form factor. There’s also no word on whether this device will be dockable like it is with the Switch.
