Fulham are now in the race to sign Palhinha’s sought-after new iteration of Silva

In what would see those at Craven Cottage start operations in January, Fulham have now reportedly joined the race to sign a Portuguese Liga talent to mirror their deal to sign Joao Palhinha in 2022.

The West London team are in no position to panic this month. It could even be argued that a month without any work would go away Marco Silva quite satisfied, with his side sitting in the Premier Leagueof the first half and in an unexpected race to secure a European place

That’s not to say the transfer rumors weren’t coming thick and fast. His ilk Anthony Cacci and Usman Diao Both have been linked in reports in recent weeks in two moves that would boost Silva’s side in the defensive third of the pitch.

Diao would be a particularly interesting arrival, with reports suggesting that Fulham have been impressed by the young Midland defender’s performances this season. Meanwhile, on the attacking front, the Cottagers could yet land a repeat of Palhinha.

They are one to watch…

According to O Jogo as reported by Sport Witness, Fulham have now entered the race to sign Geny Catamo by Sporting Club along with Aston Villa and Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The young winger has impressed at times this season and would not be the first player to swap Sporting for Fulham, with Palhinia making just that move in 2022 and having enough success to earn a move to Bayern afterwards Munich last summer.

Now, Catamo could follow in the midfielder’s footsteps and join an exciting squad under the guidance of Silva’s expertise. With Wolves and Aston Villa in the race for his signature, however, Fulham will need to act quickly.

Catamo hasn’t reached his best form yet

If Fulham were to sign Catamo, they would be investing in a player who is not yet at the peak of his powers, but one who is full of potential. The Sporting winger has shown flashes of quality throughout the current campaign, scoring four goals and making four more assistshowever it is clear that it still lacks this crucial consistency.

Unfortunately, Craven Cottage isn’t exactly the worst environment for a young player to realize his potential. Rodrigo Muniz has thrived under Silva, as has the emerging Joshua King and now Catamo could become the latest to benefit from the manager’s excellence in West London.

Gaining many fans during his time at Sporting, Catamo was dubbed the ‘King of Lisbon’ soccer talent scout Jacek Kulig last season after scoring a last-gasp winner against Benfica.

Still only 23, the winger could have a decision to make in the near future if Premier League sides do, indeed, come calling.
