The online brand GhostBed offers a wide range of mattresses. From more affordable all-foam beds to high-end hybrids with patented cooling technology, the brand really seems to have something for everyone. Nowadays, his kit even has some quality RV mattresses.
Among all the beds to pick and choose from, the brand’s flagship mattress is probably the GhostBed Classic. It’s a simple, full-foam option, with decent firmness but a fairly nuanced build and feel. In this review, I’ll cover everything you need to know about this amazing one-of-a-kind bed.
First impressions of the GhostBed Classic
Shortly after ordering online, this bed arrived at our location with absolutely free shipping. It arrived in a tall cardboard box, and just like any other bed, we dumped the contents, ripped off the plastic, and watched the bed inflate. Being an all-foam mattress, we found it looked a bit shaped out of the box, but after giving it a full night to sit and expand on our foundation, it looked perfectly normal.
In the morning it was time to test the mattress. After testing the sensitivity, it felt very different from your average foam bed. She responded surprisingly quickly, but as I pushed further into the bed I felt tight and sticky. This was further confirmed when I jumped. I felt a lot of push-back and support in my back and stomach, but when I turned to my sides, it conformed nicely to my shoulders and hips with plenty of cushioning – it felt more nuanced than neutral to me.

GhostBed Classic mattress firmness and feel
What does the GhostBed Classic mattress feel like?
We would classify this type of mattress feel as a blended foam. The mattress’s memory foam transition layer reduces pressure on your sides, while the latex foam top offers enough responsiveness when you sleep on your back or stomach. Beds like this, which have two completely different types of foam in their construction, often result in more of a mixed foam feel – strange as it sounds, but very comfortable.
How firm is the GhostBed Classic mattress?
This bed is average on our scale, give or take. It provides sleepers with equal parts pressure relief and support, making it versatile enough to work for all sleeper types. Whether you don’t like sleeping on your back, side, stomach, or some sequence of all three throughout the night, this option should suit you well enough.
Buying a bed with a neutral firmness level like this is often a safe bet, especially if you’re not sure how firm you want your bed to be. Medium firmness is the best of both worlds of comfort, both soft and firm. I personally sleep on a medium size bed and really enjoy the level of comfort it gives me. Not a must if you want a super soft option, but take a look at our selection The best mattresses for side sleepers List to see other matching beds for this option.
GhostBed Classic mattress construction
This mattress is 11 inches thick and consists of three layers of foam:
- At the bottom, there is a thick layer of dense support foam. This gives the main base of support to the mattress.
- Then you have the bed’s transition layer, which is gel-filled memory foam that provides pressure relief for side sleepers and acts as a buffer between the bed’s support and comfort layers.
- On top, the GhostBed Classic has a layer of latex foam for comfort. This balances the dense feel of the memory foam below with a slightly responsive and springy comfort.
- The bed is wrapped in a breathable, soft blanket. It’s pretty comfortable and should help you stay temperature neutral when you’re sleeping on the mattress at night.
GhostBed Classic mattress performance
Motion isolation
If you or your partner are particularly light sleepers, this is an important thing to consider in your next mattress. Sometimes, if one person moves too much or gets up in the middle of the night, it can wake up the other. In this case, you’ll want a bed that reduces movement well. We’d say the GhostBed Classic does a good job of isolating cross-mattress movement. I highly doubt you’ll be waking anyone up in this particular bed anytime soon.
Out-of-the-box support
For an all-foam mattress, we can say that the GhostBed Classic has good edge support. As you apply your weight to the perimeter of the bed, its support foam and responsive latex foam on top help keep it firmly in place along those edges. If edge support is a major concern for you or your partner, I would consider a hybrid mattress with reinforced coils along the edges instead of foam. Still, you shouldn’t feel like you’re going to fall off the mattress at any point — wow, what a relief.
Temperature
As I mentioned, the GhostBed Classic should sleep in the temperature-neutral range. It won’t actively cool you down while you sleep on it, but it shouldn’t really warm you up either. Most mattresses online work similarly when it comes to temperature regulation, and it often depends on external factors – not just the mattress itself. However, GhostBed as a brand has other active cooling beds to consider and you can always check us out if you want to see more. The best cooling mattress for hot sleepers list.
Continuity
The GhostBed Classic should be durable enough to last average body types for at least the next seven to 10 years. When it comes to mattress durability online, we usually say that hybrid beds with support rolls outperform all foam support bases in the long run — foam degrades slightly faster over time than steel rolls. However, compared to the extremely cheap option found on Amazon, this mattress is built to a higher quality, which should help reduce long-term durability issues.
Who is the GhostBed Classic mattress best for?
Given its nuanced construction and feel, this won’t be the best bed for absolutely everyone. While most people find the bed generally comfortable and affordable, we wonder who will love it the most.
Sleeping position
Sleepers who switch between different positions at night will likely get the most out of the GhostBed Classic. Its medium firmness profile is supportive enough for back and belly sleepers, while reducing pressure enough to accommodate most side sleepers. All sleeper types should work well on this mattress.
When it comes to more specific sleep choices, things get a little trickier. If you want an ultra-firm or soft mattress, this definitely won’t be the bed of your dreams. Most beds from GhostBed range around a medium firmness to accommodate a wide range of sleepers, but perhaps not all. You can always meet us Best Extra Mattress list if you prefer to sleep on a firmer mattress style.
Body type
This mattress is best for supporting medium to small sized individuals. Heavier people can sit on a full foam bed in this style, but may prefer a more supportive, roll-top hybrid mattress. If you’re on the heavier side and are interested in checking out other ultra-supportive options, feel free to check out our list. best beds for heavy people.

One of my favorite things about this mattress is how affordable it is — especially after the discount is applied. As a brand, GhostBed is great with promotions on their beds throughout the year. Right now, you can expect to pay just under $900 for a queen size, which is a great deal for a foam mattress of this quality.
Testing, shipping and warranty
GhostBed also goes above and beyond with its own set of policies. The classic mattress ships absolutely free in the box, and once you have it in your hands, you get a 101-night trial to try it out risk-free at home. If you don’t like it within that time, you can return it for free and get a full refund. On the other hand, if you decide to keep it, you get a 20-year warranty. Just make sure you use the right foundation for the bed. Otherwise, you may void your bed’s warranty.
How does the GhostBed Classic compare to other mattresses?
GhostBed Classic and Nectar Classic
Apart from the flagship GhostBed, another popular mattress online is the Nectar Classic. Unlike the GhostBed Classic, you get a choice between a full foam or a hybrid version of the Nectar Classic. Compared to the blended foam feel of the GhostBed Classic, the Nectar mattress has a more responsive memory foam quality. It’s also a little sturdier, with the choice of support you go with both, and significantly more affordable after the discount. If you’re looking for the option backed by the most consumer-friendly policies, Nectar is the clear winner between the two in this department.
GhostBed Classic and Bear Original
Another bed comparable to the GhostBed Classic is the Bear Original, another popular all-foam option. It’s another triple-layer foam mattress, but instead of a blended foam feel, Bear Original offers sleepers with a slightly firmer, memory foam quality. Bear backs its mattresses with slightly better policies and is more affordable after the discount. For the more athletic types, you also have the option of splurging on the Bear Original, which has a Celliant coating that can move the needle.
Final judgment
The GhostBed Classic is such a popular mattress online for a reason: it offers sleepers generally decent comfort with a mattress feel that sets it apart from combat. I would consider this if you want a bed with a mid-range blended foam feel and have more of a budget when it comes to your next mattress.
You may like this mattress if:
- You are looking for a full foam mattress
- You want a mixed lather feel
- You want a bed of medium firmness
- You also want a quality mattress at an affordable price
You may not like this mattress if:
- You’re looking for a more supportive hybrid bed
- You prefer a neutral mattress feel
- You want to spend money on a more premium option
- You have a very tight budget
It’s actually a pretty useful story. The founder of GhostBed was apparently terrified of ghosts lurking under his bed when he was a young man. He carried this idea with him until he started his own mattress company. It sounds like a dream, but it’s true.
not at all. At least not Classic. It’s medium on our firmness scale, meaning it offers an even balance of support and comfort for sleepers. While not overly soft or firm, this firmness is suitable for a variety of sleeping preferences.
The short answer is yes. All GhostBed mattresses are designed and manufactured in the USA. In addition, all the materials used in their construction CertiPUR-USA certifiedmeaning they are ethically, non-toxicly constructed.
