Google Home and Nest speakers do not work with basic commands

An issue with Google Nest and Google Home speakers and smart displays has left some users unable to respond to basic queries and commands simply not working for the past few days.
The appeal of Google Assistant speakers and smart displays has always been to get quick answers to questions with a simple prompt. However, many Google Nest and Google Home owners have found that the basic prompts simply don’t work in the past few days.
This issue seems to have arisen over the past week over the holidays, and many users have reported problems in the early days of the new year. Simple prompts like “What’s the weather” or “What time is it” will silence the Google Home or Nest speakers, process the command, and perhaps show the lights before doing anything. The problem seems to be primarily with key commands.
Users still started reporting the problem on Google forums As of December 30thclaims the problem started a few days ago. More reports have come to light since then. People already Android Authority were able to reproduce the problem, with many in the comments of the post confirming the same issue on their end.
While the issue is certainly not limited to a few users, it doesn’t affect everyone as we were unable to reproduce the issue in our testing. This affects users in different regions and on multiple devices, including Google Home, Nest Hub Max, Home Mini, Nest Audio, and Nest Hub.
