Here’s why I got promoted

The Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra is already three years old, but that hasn’t slowed it down in the slightest, with the phone set to offer at least one more major software update. However, you may want to consider upgrading Galaxy S25 Ultra it’s worth it. The answer is not that simple.

In most cases, I recommend upgrading to the Galaxy S25 Ultra, but it depends on which model of Galaxy S22 Ultra you have and which one you have the most.

Before I go any further, I want to mention that while I have experience with the Galaxy S22 ultra, I have yet to get my hands on the S25 ultra. My insights are based on industry knowledge and personal experience with samsung devices.

The Galaxy S25 Ultra features a few design changes compared to the booksy Galaxy S22 Ultra, though it’s not a drastic departure. There are also some updates to the color options. The S22 ultra’s Phantom Black, Phantom White, Green and Turgundy have been replaced by Titan Black, Titan Grey, Titan Silverblue and Titan Whiteilver.

Although it looks drastically different, the S25 Ultra brings several hardware updates. These include minor improvements such as the switch to Wi-Fi 7 and Face Unlock biometrics, as well as more significant changes – especially for Exynos 2200 users.

US customers got the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 only, while other regions were limited to the Exynos variant of the S22 Ultra. Fortunately, the Galaxy S25 Ultra completely ditches the Exynos Chip, offering a consistent experience around the world.

Users with low storage or ram configurations may find additional reasons to upgrade. While the Galaxy S22 Ultra offers 8GB or 12GB or 12GB and storage options from 128GB to 1TB, the Galaxy S25 Ultra standardizes 12GB of RAM across all configurations with storage options from 256GB to 1TB.

Even the screen has made a small improvement. The S25 Ultra has a 6.9-inch AMOLED panel, slightly larger than the S22 Ultra’s 6.8-inch EXTRA. Unfortunately, charging speeds and battery capacity remain unchanged from the S22 Ultra. On the bright side, the new model supports upgrading to Wi-Fi 6 over Wi-Fi 7.

With four years of support, the Galaxy S22 Ultra had a respectable OS warranty when it first launched, but times have changed. Both of them Samsung and Google now offer seven years of OS updates and security patches on the vast majority of their phones. While the Galaxy S22 Ultra still has over a year of support, the Galaxy S25 Ultra is even further future-proof with updates until 2032.

Beyond the software update policy, the Galaxy S25 Ultra is also optimized for the latest Galaxy AI features. While the S22 Ultra supports Galaxy AI through an update, some features may also not work. This includes features that will work on the device, with some features not supported on the Galaxy S25 Ultra or an older Galaxy phone.

The Galaxy S25 Ultra brings several notable camera improvements over the older s22 ultra, although some of these features are carried over from older models. For example, the 200MP primary camera on the Galaxy S23 Ultra introduced the upgraded 50MP phone lens of the S24 Ultra. However, the Galaxy S25 Ultra also packs a few new features of its own.

The new 50MP Ultra Wide (UWA) lens, as well as 10-bit hdr, advances spatio-temporal processing that differentiates between moving and stationary subjects for improved shutter times and improved image quality.

The Galaxy S22 Ultra may not have the latest features, but as mentioned earlier, it still performs well and has a range of support. Despite initially shipping with Android 12, the S22 Ultra now does Android 14 and is expected to receive both Android 15 and Android 16 update.

If you haven’t experienced significant battery degradation and are happy with the current camera setup, the Galaxy S22 Ultra will continue to serve you well for at least a year. What’s more, it offers a feature that the Galaxy S25 Ultra doesn’t: Bluetooth support for S-pen. Due to its limited popularity, this feature was removed in the newer model. While it may not matter to everyone, it may be a useful feature for some users.

Starting at $1,299.99 for the 256GB model and going up from there, the Galaxy S25 Ultra isn’t cheap, nor was the S22 Ultra, which debuted at $1,199.99 for the 128GB model. If you have the money to do so and want a change, the upgrade will most likely be worth it.

The Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra was a great phone when it came out, but it’s starting to age. Of course, longer support could be a while yet, but Samsung has made some big changes over the past few years, including some advanced AI features and improved software.

Here are some of the biggest reasons to upgrade:

• Upgrade to the Galaxy S25 Ultra, with new and greatest camera features, a new one, and more.
• If you have an S22 ultra with an Exynos Soc or lower ram/storage configuration, upgrade to the Galaxy S25 Ultra and want better performance.
• If you’re happy with the current performance and features of your device, which means you’re happy to see support for another year, keep the Galaxy S22 ultra because it will still see support for another year, so there’s no urgent need to update.
