Hinge’s new AI feature determines if your prompt response is too basic

Hinge today launched a new AI-powered feature called “Prompt Feedback,” which aims to improve your dating profile by analyzing how you respond to prompts and assessing whether they need to be more specific or authentic. .
Powered by OpenAI’s GPT-4o Mini, Prompt Feedback evaluates each response and offers personalized advice to help you share interesting details about yourself, which can lead to more engaging conversations.
However, instead of telling you exactly what to write, the AI offers three levels of guidance: “Go a little deeper,” “Try a small change,” and “Great answer.” The “Great Answer” rating asks you to leave your response unchanged, while other levels offer more specific suggestions, such as, “Try adding a certain genre or favorite artist to show more personality.”

Prompt Feedback aims to address a recurring problem among singles using dating apps: Many profiles display similar, clichéd responses. For example, a common response is, “The best way to ask me is: Ask me,” which may be dull and may not attract many responses. According to a survey with users, 63% of daters struggle with what to write on their profiles, often resorting to stereotypical answers that don’t really reflect who they are.
The new feature launches during a difficult period for online dating, as users tire of endless swiping, conversations that don’t progress and frequent ghosting. Although Hinge intends to improve the overall app experience through AI tools, some users may be skeptical, as they may not be comfortable knowing that AI plays a role in connecting them with potential matches.
Parent company Match Group is investing around $20 million to $30 million in AI, its most recent initiative. AI photo selector tool For Tinder to help users choose photos that will perform well on their profile. Partnered with the company OpenAI last year.
