As Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season Approaches, all ten teams confirmed their captains for the upcoming tournament. The season is due to begin on March 22, with several teams with new leadership after significant changes during the great auction.
Basic changes and remarkable captains
Delhi’s capitals have appointed Axar Patel as a new captain after his departure Risaba PanteliWho will now lead the Super Giants Lucknow.
Kolkata Knight Riders, champions’ kings, have named Ajinkya Rahane as a captain, replacing Shreyas iyerwho moved to Punjab Kings.
The royal challengers Bengaluru will be driven by Rajat patidarnoting a change from previous seasons under FAF DU PLESSIS.
Following is an overview of each player appointed as a captain by the franchises for IPL 2025:
1) Ruturaj Gaikwad (Chennai Super Kings)
Background: Born on January 31, 1997, at Pune, Maharashtra. He is known for his durability and was the captain of the Maharashtra Cricket team on T20 and lists forms.
Achievements: Gaikwad was the top scorer in the IPL 2021 era and won the Player of the Season Prize. It also led India to a gold medal in the Asian Games of 2022.
2) Axar Patel (Delhi’s capitals)
Background: He was born on January 20, 1994, in Anand, Gujarat. It is a left-handed All-Rounder known for Slow Orthodox Bowling and Batting skills.
Accomplishments: Axar was part of the India teams that won the 2024 T20 World Cup and the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy. He made the T20i debut in 2015 and is known for his consistent ability to receive a wicket.
3) Shubman Gill (Gujarat Titans)
Background: Born on September 8, 1999, at Fazilka, Punjab. It is a flexible stroke that represents India in all forms.
Accomplishments: Gill noted a double century in Odis against New Zealand in 2023, making the youngest Indian to achieve this feat. It also holds the record for the highest individual score from an Indian stroke on T20IS.
4) Ajinkya Rahane (Kolkata Knight Riders)
Background: Born on June 6, 1988, Ashwi Khurd, Maharashtra. It is a right hand known for its technical skills.
Accomplishments: Rahane led Mumbai to the 42nd Ranji Trophy title in 2023-24. He was the top scorer at 2024 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.
5) RISHABH PANT (Lucknow Super Giants)
Background: He was born on October 4, 1997, in Roorkee, Uttarakhand. It’s a Wicket-Keeper stroke known for its aggressive style.
Accommodation: Pant became the most expensive player in IPL history in 2025. It was part of India’s teams that won the 2024 T20 World Cup and 2025 ICC Champions Trophy.

6) HARDIK PANDYA (Indians of Mumbai)
Background: He was born on October 11, 1993, in Surat, Gujarat. It is a right-handed All-Rounder known for its fast middle bowling and middle class.
Accomplishments: Pandya drove Gujarat’s Titans to their IPL title in 2022. He was the vice president of the Indian team who won the 2024 T20 World Cup.
7) Shreyas Iyer (Punjab Kings)
Background: He was born on December 6, 1994 in Bombay, Maharastra. It is a right hand known for its leadership roles in IPL.
Accomplishments: Iyer led Kolkata Knight Riders to Trimph Trumph in the IPL 2024 era and is known for his consistent performances.
8) Sanju Samson (Rajasthan Royals)
Background: He was born on November 11, 1994 in Pulluvila, Kerela. It’s a Wicket-Keeper stroke known for its aggressive style.
Accomplishments: Samson was a consistent IPL performer and led Rajasthan Royals in previous times.
9) Rajat Patidar (royal challengers Bengaluru)
Background: Born on June 1, 1993, at Indore, Madhya Pradesh. It is a right hand known for its impressive performances in the domestic cricket.
Accomplishments: Patidar climbed a prominent position with his performances at IPL, especially for the royal challengers Bengaluru.
10) Pat Cummins (Sunrisers Hyderabad)
Background: He was born on May 8, 1993, in Westmead, Australia. He is an Australian fast -paced player known for his leadership roles in international cricket.
Accomplishments: Cummins has been a key player for Australia and has led the team to the World Test Championship 2023 Trimph Trumph and the ODI 2023 Glory World Cup. He is known for his excellent skills for fast bowling.
