‘It was a livelier life in…’: Tweeter ‘Gujju”s viral post on Bengaluru vs Ahmedabad sparks debate, netizens say: ‘Ahmedabad is being pushed by the government to be cool but…’

A user X known as “Gujju Tweeter” recently sparked discussions online with a post contrasting his experiences of living in two Indian cities. The post began with the blunt remark, “Ahmedabad sucks,” as the user reflected on his time in Bengaluru compared to his life in the Gujarati city.

Describing his decision to move to Ahmedabad after living in Bengaluru as a “Big mistake”, he expressed his thoughts candidly.

“It was a livelier life in Bangalore than here (Ahmedabad),” he shared, highlighting the liveliness he felt in Bangalore that he finds missing in Ahmedabad.

“I lived among the most intelligent people in their fields. The simple life and the robust installation. Ahmedabad, it’s all spectacular and you see how the companies run by families (even IT companies) and are only exploiting hostile employees. No ethics professional and very subtle. The problems of mentality. All shows and most of the rich live on “borrowed money”.

The user did not stop there and continued to state that Ahmedabad does not have a collaborative culture.

In response to a suggestion by techie Abhinav Baldha to explore cafes, collaboration spaces and meetings to find a community, the user shared his disappointment. He answered: “I tried this too, here the culture of co-working is not present. Meetups also, they discuss topics of ‘Hello world’, very basic that does not make sense. Yes, there are great people and experts in the matter, I am exiled or avoid meeting such a low-quality crowd.”

As these comments about Ahmedabad took place online, the post sparked a wave of reactions from netizens, with more than 100 responses on X, as users shared their own perspective on the city.

Supporting the perspective of user X, one response said: “Ahmedabad is over-Vikasized, and the atmosphere is so harsh that I find the heat of the Kutchh desert during May-June more tenable than Ahmedabad.” Another added: “Vadodara and Surat are better cities than Ahmedabad. Being a Gujarati, I never liked Ahmedabad.”

One user X suggested that Ahmedabad’s image has been artificially enhanced, saying “Ahmedabad is being pushed by the government to be cool”. Meanwhile, another shared a personal experience of moving to the city: “We moved to Ahmedabad from Bangalore and have been since 2021. My experiences are different, since I work from home and have very limited interaction with the public , from ordering groceries to milk. Ahmedabad has beautiful roads but it is difficult to find a house for rent if you are not veg, not in the south.
