Leandro Trossard says Arsenal must be ‘perfect’ to beat Liverpool to Premier League title | Football News
Arsenal striker Leandro Trossard has admitted his side will need to be perfect in their pursuit of the Premier League title this season.
The Gunners are currently four points behind leaders Liverpool, who also have a game in hand. Last time out, Arsenal fought back from a late set back at Brighton, where they were held to a 1-1 draw to beat north London rivals Tottenham 2-0.
First-placed Liverpool are also yet to win the league since the turn of the year, with back-to-back draws against Manchester United and Nottingham Forest. However, Trossard believes the increasing competitiveness of the league means Arsenal will have to stay at their best to stay competitive.
“You have to be perfect every season,” Trossard said Sky Sports.
“For the last four or five seasons it has been such a tight race. Everyone is fighting, it’s not just the teams at the top of the table, everyone is getting better every season so it’s getting more competitive.
“You have to be on your (A) game every game. It’s tough, but we just have to keep believing and be ourselves, then we can get something done.”
Arsenal’s efforts to win the title this season have not been helped by an ever-growing list of injuries up front.
It was confirmed this week that Gabriel Jesus has suffered an ACL injury and will join Bucayo Saka on the sidelines. Despite the absences on offense, Trossard says he’s ready to fill in when called upon.
“Injuries are a big blow for us. We know what Bukayo (Sakha) has shown for the club and Gabriel Jesus has been on a good run, these injuries are bad luck. We hope to be ready in the meantime. to be ready.
“We’ve had to twist some things because of the injuries so everyone gets their chance. Of course, I’m always happy (to fill in up front). I’m always ready to play any position on the field.”
Arsenal have maintained a threat from set-pieces and stand alone as the team using corners more effectively. Their cornering prowess has led to some criticism from viewers who suggest the Gunners rely too much on set pieces. For Trossard, Arsenal are more than just set-pieces.
“It’s a part of our game that we’re really good at,” he said Sky Sports.
“We want to be the best at everything and that includes set-pieces. We’ve shown consistency over the last couple of years and that’s where you can decide games. It’s a big part of our game, but it’s not the only part.
“We can also score from open play. I don’t think there’s been too much reliance on corners. The outside view will be like that because we’ve scored a lot, but it’s not in our minds to say we can only score from set pieces. It’s just an extra tool to win a game.
“I think everyone in the league would like that. We’re very happy with that, obviously, we can score more but at the end of the day, you have to be happy when you get wins in the Premier League.”
