Liam Dawson’s brilliant catch leaves Quinton de Kock stunned in SA20 2025 match
Sunrisers Eastern Cape (SEC) all-rounder Liam Dawson produced a spectacular display against Durban Super Giants (DSG) in the 14th match of the SA20 2025 season. Liam Dawson pulled off a stunning one-handed catch to send JJ Smuts back in the dugout, leaving fans and players in awe.
Durban Super Giants skipper Keshav Maharaj won the toss and elected to bat first at St George’s Park in Gqeberha on Sunday, January 19. However, their batting struggled early as Sunrisers Eastern Cape pacers Marco Jansen and Richard Gleeson ran through the top order, reducing them to 18/4.
Watch: Quinton de Kock stunned by Liam Dawson’s effort
The fourth wicket was JJ Smuts, and credit for that goes to fielder Liam Dawson. The moment of the match came in the 6th over of the Durban innings. Richard Gleeson bowled a full delivery around the off-stump line. Smuts committed to an off-drive but struggled to adjust his shot, leading to a mistake.
The ball looked to be heading for the boundary but Dawson dived to his right hand and made an excellent grab. The catch left Smuts stunned and even Quinton de Kock, who could hardly believe his eyes from the dressing room. It was one of the best catches of the tournament.

The Sunrisers Eastern Cape bowlers, led by Marco Jansen and Richard Gleeson, dismissed the Durban Super Giants for a modest 115/8 in their 20 overs. Kane Williamson’s patient 44 was the only major contribution from the Super Giants, while Naveen-ul-Haq added a quickfire 30 off 15 balls.
In reply, Sunrisers Eastern Cape comfortably chased down the target in 15.2 overs. David Bedingham scored an explosive 39 off 20 balls and Aiden Markram added 31 off 20, guiding them to victory. With the win, the SEC earned bonus points and moved into fourth place with 10 points from 5 games.
A good start saw us secure the bonus point – Aiden Markram
Sunrisers captain Aiden Markram said the atmosphere from the home fans was electrifying. He pointed out that a strong start on the powerplay allowed his side to secure the bonus point. Markram also admitted that they didn’t expect the wicket to play the way it did, with more bounce than expected.
“I said it at the toss that (the atmosphere from the home fans) was really up. Initially you don’t pay much attention to it. We wanted a good powerplay and luckily the good start allowed us to get the bonus point. I didn’t have to look for it too much “To be honest, I didn’t expect it to play out that way,” said Aiden Markram.
