Liverpool loses the main defender in injury early in Plymouth Clash
Liverpool’s FA Cup clash with Plymouth Argyle went down to a miserable start when Joe Gomez fell through an injury after just ten minutes.
Gomez made his return from an injury that saw him lose the whole of January and lined up at the center of an improvised defense, but did not look comfortable by the Get-Go and an unpleasant exchange with goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher implied the dynamic problem.
Just a few minutes later, Gomez sat on the lawn and immediately marked on Liverpool Bench, clearly believing that he could not continue.
After rapidly checking from Liverpool Physios, Gomez actually retired, with 20 -year -old Isaac Mabaya emerging in place to make his highest debut.
Arne Slot declined to bring either Virgil Van Dijk or Ibrahima Konate to Plymouth, instead of supporting the star of the defensive Gemini for Wednesday’s crucial Merseyside derby, so there were limited alternatives on the bench. It was Wataru Endo who fell back to defense, with Mabaya heading to the right side of the rear line.
