Manchester United have slashed the wages of several club legends’ ambassadors as brutal cost-cutting continues
Manchester United are poised to cut payments to another group of club legends as part of Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS’ ongoing efforts to cut costs, reports reveal.
Ratcliffe has attracted considerable criticism for overseeing a series of controversial cost cuts. Sir Alex Ferguson saw his The ambassadors’ salary was reduced last yearwhile the head of INEOS was recently accused secretly stopping payments to a charity created to support former players.
Meanwhile, a significant number of staff at the club were made redundant last year and ticket prices rose, and it now appears that INEOS’ drive to save money has seen them cut more ambassadorial deals.
talkSPORT they were the first to reveal it United have informed club legends such as Bryan Robson, Denis Irwin and Andy Cole that their ambassadors’ wages will be cut.
Following this, the Daily Mail say the wage-cutting process may not yet be complete, with United officials possibly eyeing deals with a number of former players working as “legends of the game”.
United is believed to be concerned about meeting the Profit & Sustainability Rules and is trying to save money where possible, insisting that these cuts are a necessary part of running a business efficiently.
On the pitch, these cost-cutting measures have also seen Ratcliffe and INEOS recognize that no player can be considered untouchable, sparking transfer interest for midfielder Kobbie Mainoo; and winger Alejandro Garnazzo.
