Manoj Tiwary attacks Gautam Gambhir, uses Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli as weapons
Former Indian National Cricket Team player Manoj Tiwary has made a huge claim regarding Rohit Sharma’s decision to drop himself for the final match of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25. He said it was the captain’s call as Gautam Gambhir could never bowl the skipper or Virat Kohli.
Rohit Sharma took a huge decision ahead of the final Test against the Australian National Cricket Team. The Indian National Cricket Team skipper was dropped from the playing XI as he consistently failed to score runs for the team both in the middle and top order.
Rohit Sharma played three games in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25
Rohit played three games in the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy and managed just 31 runs at an average of around 6. This in itself reflects the kind of poor form he had endured. Even before the Australia series, he looked formidable with the bat in the domestic Test season.
When Rohit was left out of the Sydney Test, there were reports that the decision was taken by Gautam Gambhir. But later, the captain, in a candid chat with Star Sports, revealed that he decided to retire himself as he didn’t want too many out-of-form batsmen.
I don’t think Gautam Gambhir will be able to drop Virat Kohli or Rohit Sharma – Manoj Tiwary
Manoj Tiwary also believes that Rohit decided to drop himself and not Gautam Gambhir. He added that the captain should have played the game as they didn’t have many players scoring runs and added that the captain doubted his abilities. Speaking to Hindustan Times, he said:
“I think Rohit Sharma took the decision. It was his decision. I don’t think Gautam Gambhir will be able to reject Virat Kohli or Rohit Sharma. I think it was Rohit’s decision. Rohit should have played in Sydney because he was the captain.
“He said he doesn’t score runs, so obviously, he didn’t score runs, but neither did others. Sometimes, you go into that mindset where you feel like you have to fall instead of someone else. Just doubting your ability and putting the abilities of others above you.”
As a captain, you can’t go down when the Test series is on the line – Manoj Tiwary
Manoj Tiwary added that Rohit should not have taken this decision as every player goes through a difficult situation. He said that although the batsman took the decision for the sake of the team, it should not have been dropped when the Test series was on the line. He added:
“This should not be done by a captain. I think Rohit Sharma is a huge talent. He has proved himself. Batters and bowlers, everyone is going through a tough time. Even the coaches too.
“These things can be fixed, and you can come back and score. I personally felt he shouldn’t have gone down himself. It seems he did it for the sake of the team. As a captain, you can’t go down yourself when the Test series it’s on the line.”
