Milan are trying to revive their fortunes after the appointment of Conceição

AC Milan moved quickly to appoint a successor to Paulo Fonseca with Sergio Conceição taking charge at the San Siro.

Fonseca was sacked this morning as expected after hinting his tenure was up after yesterday’s 1-1 draw with Roma.

That result left Milan eighth in the Serie A table, 14 points behind joint leaders Atalanta and Napoli.

Fonseca coached Milan for 24 games in total, winning 12 culminating in a 3-1 win over Real Madrid in the Champions League.

The club chose to act on reports suggesting Fonseca was due a pay cut if he was sacked within six months of his appointment.

Milan are hoping that Conceição’s Portuguese compatriot will do better.

The Serie A experience

The former midfielder has vast experience in Serie A, having played for Lazio, Parma and Inter Milan. He stepped down as Porto boss in June after seven years at the helm.

During his time at the Estadio do Dragao, he led Porto to three Primeira Liga titles as well as four Taco de Portugal crowns.

Milan’s statement read: “Milan announces that Sérgio Paulo Marceneiro da Conceição has been appointed as Men’s First Team Coach until June 30, 2026.

“The Club warmly welcomes Sérgio and his staff, wishing him a journey full of success and fulfillment.”
