TL; DR

  • Google has updated its Android Switch app to make it easier to transfer burst photos from iOS to Pixel devices.
  • If there are no mapping issues, the full set of exploded photos will be stacked in Google Photos.
  • It is not yet known whether other Android phone brands will benefit from the update.

The recent improvements to Android Switch have already impressed Android Authority Ryan Haines switching from iPhone 16 to Pixel 9 a surprisingly easy ride with the program. But Google developers refuse to rest on their laurels. A new update to Android Switch aims to do just that Switch from iOS to Android devices smoother for users who like to take burst photos.

according to Topic post By Paul Dunlop, Google’s Product Lead for Android Onboarding and Android Settings, this feature ensures full preservation of exploded photos during the transfer process over a cable or Wi-Fi connection.

“With this update, you’ll always keep a full set of blown-up photos when transferring,” Dunlop said in his post. This feature is now enabled for Pixel devices with the latest firmware and can be used during initial setup or through the Android Switch app.

In response to questions about how to handle exploded photos in Google Photos, Dunlop clarified that if the feature is enabled, they will generally be grouped into stacks. However, he noted: “There are a few differences between how Apple Photos and Google Photos define stacks, so there may not be a perfect one-to-one mapping.”

While Dunlop specifically referenced Pixel devices in his post, it’s unclear whether the update will equally benefit iOS users who switch to other Android phone brands.
