The $900 OnePlus 13 and the $600 OnePlus 13R, which debuted outside of China on Tuesday, both feature 6,000mAh batteries, fast wired charging, waterproof displays that can be used in wet environments, and new (or newer) Qualcomm processors capable of speeding most of the time. games.
Both of them telephones while on paper they seem like capable devices for most tasks, there are many differences between them that justify the $300 price difference. The more expensive OnePlus 13 includes a slightly larger 6.82-inch display, the new Qualcomm. Snapdragon 8 Elite processor and a triple camera system that includes 50 megapixel cameras: wide, telephoto and ultra-wide shooting.
But in addition to higher specs, the more expensive phone is also the only phone to include wireless charging, which includes both Qi compatibility and fast 50W wireless charging when using OnePlus’ AirVooc charger. The OnePlus 13 also supports wired charging speeds of 80W in the US (100W outside the US) when using the OnePlus SuperVooc power adapter.
The $600 OnePlus 13R ups the ante by using last year’s flagship Qualcomm processor and ditching wireless charging.
While the cheaper OnePlus 13R lacks wireless charging, last year’s Qualcomm entry did Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 the processor should still allow it to be fast enough. It has a slightly smaller 6.78-inch display and its camera system includes 50-megapixel cameras with wide and ultra-wide lenses along with an 8-megapixel camera with a telephoto lens. The phone can charge at 55W using the included SuperVooc power adapter, although a OnePlus representative said it can support 80W and 100W speeds, but you’ll need to purchase those SuperVooc charger models separately. Compared to the more common USB-PD standard, it can charge at 18W.
Both phones will get four years of software updates along with six years of security updates, which is an improvement over the OnePlus 12’s four years of software updates and five years of security updates. The OnePlus 12R was promised a year less of each than the 12, so it’s nice to see the 13 and 13R have the same policies.
Both phones have AI features, but it’s a lighter touch compared to other phone makers like Samsung and Google. Like other Android phones, the OnePlus 13 and 13R include access to Google’s Search Circle and Gemini AI assistant. OnePlus itself is building other AI features into its camera app and notes app, which include photo editing features for blurring images and creating text, respectively.
