Player Championship: Rory Mcilroy, Scottie Scheffler in a dispute, as three share the lead at TPC Sawgrass | Golf news

Rory Mcilroy overcame an irregular display from the t -shirt to take a shot from the lead to the players, as Scottie Scheffler made a strong start to his defense.
Mcilroy found only four platforms during an opening round at the TPC Sawgrass, where he mixed seven birdies with two Bogeys to publish a five under 67 and stay in touch with the first leaders.
Former big champion Lucas Glover set the Clubhouse target with a round 66, which later fits JJ Spaun after a laps without paint, with Camilo Villegas making a triple tie after passing five Birdies in seven holes to reach six down.
Mcilroy shares the fourth point with Billy Horschel, Min Woo Lee, Akshay Bhatia and Max McGreevy, who still had two holes to complete when the game was suspended at 7.34pm local time (11.34mm GMT) due to darkness.
The English twin Aaron Rai and Laurie Canter is part of a logjam two of the pace after opening 68s, while Scheffler-playing with Mcilroy and looking for Jack Nicklaus as only three times the winner of the players-started with a three down 69.
How the ‘unstable’ Mcilroy was transferred to a dispute
McILROY made the dream start when he ran from eight feet to the first and two-putted from 40 feet to take advantage of Par-Five then, only to bogey the par-three third, missing a 10-foot bird’s chance in the fourth and hole from the same distance to save the same in the sixth.
The 35-year-old failed to get up from the seventh green and destroyed the second Bogey of the day, throwing him back to one down, before he went on a charge to the leaderboard by making an eight-foot Birdie in Par-Five ninth.
Mcilroy was turned from eight feet to the 10th and recovered from trees from the next t-shirt to Birdie the Par-Five 11th, with 2019 champion jumping in two of the lead when he added another Birdie from 12 feet to 12th.
The 2019 champion continued to recover from Wayward Tee’s shots to maintain the Bogey Free Back Nine and saved his best for the latest Four, where a stunning perforation-and-with-a five-foot-from-pine straw that created an eight-foot Birdie.
“I was trying to be disciplined and strategic, I just don’t perform it very well”, McILROY I told Sky Sports. “I didn’t hit a lot of matches. I was trying to cut it in the game.
What else happened on the start day?
Scheffler spoke four Birdies with a lonely Bogey in his opening round, while Xander Schauffele-strolling this star-Studded Threeball-glistening back to the par level after a final double-blog hole.
Glover Birded each of the last four holes in the TPC Sawgrass to set the original goal of the Clubhouse, with Villegas getting into the solo lead in seven below a late Bogey in the opening of 66.
A congestion leaderboard sees 19 players separated from two strokes, with Chandler Phillips between these two behind a noticeable quadrilateral 68 containing three Eagles and a triple bogl.
Jordan Spieth 70’s clear opening contained two Eagles in his first seven holes, while Ryder Cup Ludvig Aberg players, Justin Rose and Tommy Fleetwood started their tournament with one below 71.
The former world No. 1 Justin Thomas needed a bird finish to mix six 78 and is facing a battle to cut on Friday, while former FedExCup Viktor Hovland champion is in a common plunge on the leaderboard after eight-over 80.
Five players were unable to complete their opening round and will return until they end at 8.50am. Local time (12.50 pm GMT), with the second round starting at 7.40am. (11.40am GMT) as scheduled.
