Ramaswamy to leave DOGE to pursue Ohio gubernatorial bid – Politico By Investing.com

Investing.com – Vivek Ramaswamy, who is President-elect Donald Trump’s nominee to co-head the Department of Government Efficiency with Elon Musk, may leave the group before his term ends, Politico reported on Sunday .

Ramaswamy plans to announce a campaign for Ohio governor and could leave DOGE by the end of January, Politico said, citing a person close to the matter.

Ramaswamy, who had also briefly campaigned for the Presidency, was tapped by Ohio Governor Mike DeWine to replace Vice President-elect JD Vance in the Senate on Friday, with Lt. Governor Jon Husted being tapped for the role.

The exit of Ramaswamy also complicates the prospect of the success of DOGE, which has set the ambitious goal of cutting government spending by $2 trillion by July 2026. Musk had also recently reduced this goal, stating that $1 trillion in spending cuts seem much more feasible.

While the agency said it has begun planning its agenda, doubts remain about how much it will do in government, since the final decision to cut tax spending still rests with Congress.

While Trump is expected to sign executive orders giving the group some authority, its actual regulatory status is still unclear.

Ramaswamy could not immediately be reached for comment.
