Reading midfielder Charlie Savage is attracting interest from a number of Championship clubs with his performances this season as the 21-year-old continues to shine in League One.
Sources informed CaughtOffside that Savage is on the radar of several clubs in the Championship with Sheffield United, Stoke City and Norwich City all monitoring him with a view to a possible move in the current transfer window.
Those clubs are confident of completing a deal for the youngster and believe Reading’s resolve could be tested before the end of January.
The Royals are enjoying a positive 2024/25 season and are currently pushing for a return to the Championship with Noel Hunt’s side currently in the play-off places in fifth place, 10 points behind league leaders Wycombe.
With this huge prize on the line, Reading will not want to lose Savage mid-season as the midfielder has been a key factor in their success, producing six goals and six assists in 26 matches in all competitions.
It remains to be seen how much Championship clubs value Savage and if they get a hint that a deal can be done in January, offers will start arriving on Reading’s doorstep.
Is Charlie Savage ready for the next step in his career?
Savage is the son of former Premier League footballer Robbie Savage and earned his football education at Man United’s academy. Like his father, the midfielder was unable to make it to Old Trafford, making just one appearance for the Red Devils’ first team in a Champions League game against Young Boys – a match commented on by his dad.
Marcus Rashford’s exit could pave the way for top striker to move to Manchester United
That would be the dream for the 20-year-old, however, with the Wales star opting to drop down the leagues to play for Reading in 2023.
This change has worked for Savage as the youngster continues to go from strength to strength in League One. The midfielder is ready for the next step and a move to the Championship, but with which club he will do that remains to be seen.
