Rohit Sharma praises Jasprit Bumrah’s skills
Rohit Sharma attended a press conference on Christmas Eve where he was asked about Jasprit Bumrah’s performance in the ongoing series. Rohit congratulated Bumrah for his massive impact and hopes it will continue even more.
“It’s nice to see – a lot of people in the opposition camp are talking about him, how they have to handle him and things like that,” Rohit told reporters.
“Usually, those are the discussions that happen everywhere (but) the impact he’s had on the series so far is huge. I hope he continues to do that because these (last) two games are very important for us.” , he added.
The Indian skipper further praised Bumrah’s belief in his abilities and claimed that he doesn’t need to be told much. According to Rohit, the other players just need to keep the pressure on the batsmen when Bumrah is in this form.
“How it works is very simple and straightforward. He believes in his own abilities so much that there is not much discussion we have to have with him…that makes it easy for me,” explained Rohit.
“It’s always nice to have someone like him in your team. When he’s in that form, the job of the other players becomes a little bit easier, all they have to do is try to keep that pressure on,” he added.
Rohit Sharma supports other bowlers to play a supporting act
Beyond India’s bowling attack, Rohit Sharma also feels that the other bowlers need to step up and play a proper supporting role to Jasprit Bumrah. However, he accepted it Mohammed Siraj, Akash Deepand the other bowlers are struggling and have been a bit unlucky at times.
“Bumrah is definitely making the most of it. Siraj and the other guys who are bowling around him obviously know they have to step up to do the job as well. They are trying hard,” mentioned the Indian pattern.
“They’ve also had a bit of bad luck, a lot of plays and misses, they’ve also missed certain opportunities – these things can happen. For me as the captain, my message is very plain and simple: keep running and keep doing the what have you been doing They have done the job in the past, now it’s about doing it again,” he explained.
The brilliance of Jasprit Bumrah
Jasprit Bumrah is the leading wicket-taker in the series with 21 wickets in three Tests at an average of 10.30. He has been India’s saving grace in this series as he has performed consistently well.
Bumrah has consistently troubled Australia’s top-order with his exceptional skills and even played a role in Nathan McSweeney’s dismissal from the team after the opening three Tests. Meanwhile, Mohammed Siraj is the next best bowler for India with 13 wickets in three matches.
The bowling line-up clearly relies heavily on Bumrah and the other bowlers need to step up if India are to retain the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Akash Deep showed promise in the last match and is expected to do better at the MCG.
