Southampton 0 – 4 Brighton

Brighton caused a 21st defeat of the Premier League of the season at Lowly Southampton as he relaxed in a 4-0 win at St Mary’s.
Joao Pedro put on the side of Fabian Hurzeler in front of the break and, after the Cameron Archer’s “equilibrium” was excluded from the offside flag, the Seagulls ran riots with further strikes by Georginio Rutter, Kaoru Mitoma and Jack Hinshelwood.
The result leaves the underside of Southampton 13 points from the security with 12 games remaining to play and push Brighton to the eighth and back into dispute over European qualifications.
Southampton was not often lucky on their part this season and this continued early, with Lesley Ugochukwu closing after less than 120 seconds for a reckless treatment of Pedro and Jan Bednarek took off with injury to his left foot after 12 minutes.
Brighton then started getting the game from the scruff of the neck. Carlos Baleba’s free kick bounced just over the bar after Tyler Dibling’s chief clearance, before Mitoma broke by two defenders to connect with a cross from the right, though a poor first touch left him down with the goal.
In the first half, they broke the door they had knocked. Bednarek’s replacement, Armel Bella -Kotchap – making his first appearance since August – has unintentionally helped Pedro’s touch to Rutter, who put the Brazilian on his way to bring down the target and cool Aaron Ramsdale.
At the beginning of the second half, the roof almost came out of St. Maria, when Archer leaned over a ball and fell in the past Bart Verbruggen. But the atmosphere quickly declined again after the Offside was highlighted. A decision supported by VAR after a quick review.
We didn’t have to come back from it. Rutter’s presence forced Joe Aribo’s self -concentration in a mistake and, after Yankuba Mintteh’s square ball, the French striker hit the house to double the lead. Appeals for a foul by the hosts became unanswered.
The third followed less than 15 minutes later, when Joao Pedro’s Deft Touch in the central circle put Mitoma on his way forward before finding the net with a dinked finish.
And when Jack Hinshelwood managed to breast the ball and finish seven meters after one corner to make it four, hundreds of saints who made the exit after another humble.
Hurzeler: The only thing we can regret not score more goals
Brighton coach Fabian Hurzeler: “You can’t ever wait to win 4-0, but overall we were very happy with the show. I think the key today was to defend in a pretty solid way, to be very sharp for the second ball, to win your personal duels , And we did, I think, in general, quite well.
“There were some phases where we played a little bit with the second ball. We had a delay in our middle, but I was generally happy with the show.
“This is the only thing we can really regret today, that we didn’t score more goals. There were many chances.” Ramsdale had an excellent performance today, made several real, real good savings,
“Let’s hope we keep this dynamic … We score more goals and use the odds more effectively next time.”
