Tasmania LAN Party Photos Archive
In July 2023 I remember something from the past, big public LAN parties. I remember them being a semiregular occurrence around Tasmania, only attending a couple in my youth before they disappeared. I was wondering if I could find some photos of these events to help the memories come back more clearly. After some googling of vague memories I found the name of an old group that organized LAN parties called “Dark-Media”. Using the Internet Archive’s Wayback Machine I found their old site, and a photo album page, but unfortunately none of the images were scrapped.
After trying a few other timestamps and a few more web searches I couldn’t find anything. As a last ditch effort I made a few posts on various forums, including the long dormant Dark-Media Steam group, then I forgot all about it, until 2 months ago! Someone reached out and made me a small private group on Facebook, when I saw that I got more than I asked for! I was just looking for Dark-Media photos, but found another regular LAN that I had forgotten about, and photos from more LANs from the late 90s. I have taken all the photos and now uploaded them to archive.org where they will hopefully live forever.
Now that these albums are available to the public I hope that people involved in these events will find them, enjoy looking at them and remember. As for people who are not involved, enjoy watching history, the development of technology and video games (and even food and fashion) and maybe be inspired to organize a new LAN activity!
