The current Man Utd squad may be the worst in the club’s 147-year history

Ruben Amorim has admitted that the current Manchester United squad may be the worst in the club’s illustrious 147-year history.

Amorim was left scratching his head once again as United fell to a home defeat with 3-1 at bogey Brighton & Hove Albion, just days after Amad Diallo had avoided embarrassment against Southampton with a hat-trick at Old Trafford.

Goals from Kaoru Mitoma and Georginio Rutter thanks to a terrible mistake by Andre Onanascondemned United to a sixth home defeat this season and Amorim made his feelings about the level of players at his disposal clear when speaking to the media after the match.

“In ten games to Premier Leaguewe won two,” he said. “I know that. Imagine what that’s like for a Manchester United fan. Guess what that is for me. We get a new coach who loses more than the last one. I am fully aware of this.

“I’m not going to change, no matter what. I know we can succeed, but we have to survive right now. I’m not naive. We have to survive now.

“We are probably the worst team in history Manchester United. I know you want headlines, but I say this because we need to recognize this and change it. There you go: your titles.’

“It’s hard to explain,” he continued: “We have to recognize the moment and not beat the problem. Everyone here is underperforming, regardless of the circumstances. We are underperforming and we have to accept it.

“It’s unacceptable to lose so many games for any team in the Premier League, imagine Manchester United. So it’s a really difficult time, but we have to go on, we have to go on, there’s no other way. We have to suffer and go on.

“Our players are really nervous and anxious. When you go on the last pitch you remember the last games here, if I feel it the players feel it a lot. The only way is to keep doing the same and winning games.”

Amorim was expected to quickly turn things around at United following the sacking of Erik ten Hag in October, but the former Sporting CP boss has won just five of his 15 games in all competitions, losing seven.
