The Magpies make it five league wins in a row as Spurs’ misery continues
Newcastle came from behind to make it five consecutive Premier League wins as they beat Spurs 2-1 at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in Saturday’s first leg.
Goals from Anthony Gordon and the in-form Alexander Isak ensured Eddie Howe’s side took all three points in London as their push for a top-four finish strengthens.
Despite taking an early lead through Dominic Solanke, Spurs fell to their third defeat in four games and remain in the bottom half of the table, without a league win since December 15.
The Magpies, who have beaten the likes of Manchester United and Aston Villa in recent weeks, are level with Chelsea but the Blues play later today.

How the action unfolded
Solanke got Ange Postecoglou’s side off to the perfect start when he headed home Pedro Porro’s cross inside four minutes.

But the lead would not last long. Just two minutes later, and with new England manager Thomas Tuchel watching from the stands, Gordon finished superbly from a tight angle to bring Newcastle back on level terms.
If the first featured some clinical attacking play, there was perhaps a fair bit of luck in Newcastle’s second.
On 37 minutes, Jacob Murphy’s cross from the right clipped the outstretched leg of Radu Dragusin and right into the path of Isak, who bundled the ball into the net for a seventh straight league game.

In the end it turned out to be the difference between the two sides. Despite plenty of second-half chances for the home side and twelve minutes of stoppage time in the end, Postecoglou’s side failed to convert any of their chances and will be left to endure another disappointing afternoon.
For Howe and Newcastle, meanwhile, their fine recent run continues.
