Trump requires federal employees to return to work in person

Representative Mark Harris, RNC, expresses confidence in passing Trump’s legislative priorities through both Republican-controlled chambers and the “strong indication” that America is once again a world leader.
As promised on the campaign trail, President Donald Trump signed an executive order requiring federal employees to return to work in person.
The order comes after Trump indicated he planned to fire the former President Joe Biden move that allows federal workers to remain in a hybrid labor agreement until 2029.
“Heads of all departments and agencies in the executive branch of government should, as far as possible, take all necessary measures to end remote work arrangements and require employees to return to work in person in their respective full-time jobs, provided that the heads of departments and agencies make exemptions that they deem necessary,” reads the order.
Agencies will begin moving to fully in-person work at 5 p.m. Friday, the order said.

One of those initiatives was the end of remote work and sees the requirement that federal workers return to the office as a way to stimulate voluntary layoffs.
“Requiring federal employees to come to the office five days a week will result in a wave of voluntary terminations that we welcome: If federal employees do not want to report, American taxpayers should not pay them for the privilege of the COVID era. stay at home,” Musk wrote in an op-ed published with former DOGE co-leader Vivek Ramaswamy in The Wall Street Journal last month.

The order stated: “As part of this freeze, no federal civilian position that is vacant at noon on January 20, 2025, may be filled, and no new position may be created, except as otherwise provided in this memorandum or other applicable law.”
The freeze excludes military personnel and positions related to immigration enforcement, national security and public safety.
