Will the Nintendo Switch 2 be revealed this week? Here’s everything we know

As the world turns, so do the console generations. The Nintendo Switch it is more than seven yearsso it’s due for a refresher. The rumors of Nintendo Switch 2 have been turning around for yearsbut now i know indeed warm up A sequel to Nintendo’s most successful home console is still coming and is likely come sooner rather than later.

Will it be a direct sequel to the Switch with updated specs while keeping the same hybrid functionality or will Nintendo be weird with it? Will it still be called the Switch 2, or will the company go with something like the Super Switch or even the New Nintendo Switch? You can never tell with Nintendo. Heck, maybe he’ll call the thing the Switch U.

However, the last few weeks have brought feverish speculation regarding all aspects of the future gaming console. It is important to note, however, that very little information has been confirmed by Nintendo. The company operates on its own schedule. That said, here are all the rumors that are more likely to be true, given the analysis of the industry.

As mentioned before, Nintendo marches to the beat of its own drum. We don’t know exactly when there will be an event to reveal the console, but rumors have been swirling about an announcement this week. A Walmart post seemed to suggest that a the revelation would be forthcoming on Thursday, January 16. The Virgin Tom Warren also reported we will have an announcement this week.

Even Nintendo has problems keeping the lid on a major console version, which is probably why there have been so many announcement rumors. There are parts to be purchased and deliveries to be made. A senior analyst at MST Financial noticed a spike in production equipment spending from the Nintendo Hosiden assembler.

Again, this is more or less a mystery. We’re not totally in the dark, but it’s mostly rumor and speculation. One thing we know for sure is that Nintendo will announce the Nintendo Switch 2 (or whatever it chooses to call it) from March 2025, as the company said. confirmed in May. Some say there will be a March release date, which makes sense given that the OG Switch came out on March 17, 2017. However, other reports put the the console release window later in 2025.

Accessories maker Genki, which has been a major source of leaks in recent months, says that the console will be released in April.

Nintendo has a strange history here. The embarrassing Wii U followed the massive success of the Wii. The Wii itself follows the more traditional GameCube. In other words, it’s possible it’ll be something out of left field and not exactly a true Switch sequel. However, this is unlikely this time. As much as I’d love to see wacky VR glasses or a completely bonkers console concept, all points point to a more traditional approach.

Developers has already seen the hardwarealbeit in a very early form, and appears to be a regular old console. While Nintendo hasn’t confirmed hybrid functionality, it would be a strange omission given the absolute financial storm of the Switch. We have also heard rumors of a Mini-LED displaywhich followed for a hybrid console. It is very likely that this will be a straight Switch 2, or something similar, which will call to mind the Super Nintendo.

Therefore, recent rumors suggest a design reminiscent of the original Switch. According to report from VGCPictures of the console have appeared online and show an 8-inch screen and Joy-Con magnetic controllers. There appear to be SL/SR buttons and front player LEDs on these controls.

Everything leaked or rumored so far about this console has been pretty, well, traditional. It looks like the original Switch, but better. It’s amazing, but will there be any of that unpredictable Nintendo magic? Maybe! Recent reports indicate two perplexing additions that people cannot hide either hair.

An accessory manufacturer called Genki accidentally leaked an alleged mockup at CES 2025 of the entire console. If the Switch 2 is coming sooner rather than later, it makes sense that accessory makers would have these kinds of mockups. There seems to be a mysterious “C” button on the bottom right side and no one knows what it does. Could voice chat be started during the game? Could you calibrate the controls? Could you create a Bowser hologram in your living room? We’ll have to wait and see, and there’s always a chance that the button doesn’t even exist.

Now on the updated Joy-Cons, these same leaks seem to indicate a new sensor on the connection side of each controller. It seems to all like an optical sensorwhich is what a computer mouse uses. This led to speculation that players could flip the Joy-Con over and use it as a mouse.

But why would anyone even want this? I can think of three words. New Mario Paint. However, take all things Genki with a grain of salt, as Nintendo has come out and said that the the images and videos were “unofficial”. The accessory manufacturer also stated that his mockup was not based on a real consolebut rather “leaked information circulating in the industry”.

If it is a sequel to the Switch, the next question should be about backwards compatibility. The Switch’s library is absolutely massive, and continues to grow, so players will be rightly annoyed if they can’t play. Tears of the Kingdom on their new next generation console. There is good news on this front.

The company officially announced in a recent earnings report that the the console will be fully backwards compatible. There will also be access to Nintendo Online, so users will be able to play all those old retro titles.

Rumors about the specs are all over the place, so it’s hard to pin down. We know one thing for sure: it will be more powerful than the old Switch hardware, which was already outdated in 2017. An analyst has allegedly obtained a spec sheet. US Korea Daily News that said the Switch 2 it will have an eight-core Cortex-A78AE processor8 GB of RAM, and 64 GB of internal eMMC storage. This track for me, as these specifications are almost submitted in 2024 as the original Switch was in 2017. However, some reports indicate that the console it will include 12 GB of RAM.

Another source suggests that the eight-core CPU will be packed into an NVIDIA product Tegra239 SoC (system on a chip). Since the current Switch runs on an NVIDIA chip, this makes a lot of sense. The CPU will be more powerful, but it’s the Switch 2’s new GPU that will be a major differentiator. It is fully confirmed that the Switch 2 will support DLSS, NVIDIA’s “deep learning supersampling” upscaling technology, which will allow the console to render low-resolution games internally while outputting a high-resolution image. (Fun fact: we actually wrote how perfect DLSS was for the Nintendo Switch 2 when the technology was announced with the RTX 20 series in 2018.)

There are still questions about the Switch 2 and DLSS: System support newer DLSS features such as frame generation? Will existing games be automatically ordered by NVIDIA’s algorithm? Regardless of the exact implementation, DLSS upscaling will be a big leap over the rudimentary techniques available to Nintendo Switch developers.

Regarding the display, there are many conflicting rumors. The first reports from solid sources suggested that the Switch 2 would have an 8-inch LCD display, but there are also rumors about a 7-inch display with a refresh rate of 120Hz. Some analysts suggested that this would be an OLED screen, while others said that it would be a Mini-LED display. A Mini-LED display is basically an LCD display that has a backlight made of (surprise!) Mini-LEDs rather than edge lighting. This allows for local dimming, making blacks blacker. I have added my bets here. I think it will be a standard LCD, to keep costs down, with an OLED or Mini-LED model coming later down the line. However, Mini-LED screens are a bit cheaper than OLED displays, so it’s certainly a possibility at launch.

As for resolution, recent reports suggest that the console will play 1080p in range and 4K when docked. It’s much better than the OG Switch.

We don’t have too much information on the price, but we have a lot of history to work with. The original Nintendo Switch was launched at $300, which is almost the “magic number” when it comes to Nintendo console releases in recent years. The Wii U also came in at $300.

However, there are many rumors circulating that Nintendo could raise the asking price for the Switch 2. Numerous outlets they said it will be $400or maybe even more expensive. However, the same analysts who said the console will be $400 were also pretty sure it would be out by the end of 2024 and, well, it looks like that’s not going to happen.

Going back in history, there is some precedent for a price increase. The GameCube cost $200 and the Wii was $250. The Wii U and Switch went up to $300 and, well, the numbers like to go up. A price of $400 would make it almost as expensive as a PS5 and Xbox Series X. That would also put it at the same price as the 256GB LCD Steam Deck.

No ! But it certainly is for a long time we had a real 3D Mario adventure, didn’t we? This would be a system vendor. Other than that, your guess is as good as mine. Passed as a prologue, we can expect something from Ubisoft and an off-the-wall title like 1-2-Change.

If there’s a gimmick or hook involved with the console, we’ll also have a game that takes advantage of it. A double version of Metroid Prime 4as well as Breath of the Wild and Twilight Princess before that, it is also a possibility. Finally, there were rumblings that the big launch title could be none other than Mario Kart 9.

That’s all we know about the Nintendo Switch 2 today. We will update this article with the rumors we trust and with the information we collect directly from the sources. Any changes made to the article after its initial publication will be listed below.
