TL;DR
- Android Auto version 13.4 introduces an updated media player interface.
- This update brings a smaller album art, rearranged buttons, and a relocated progress bar.
- A new font completes the makeover, adding a polished look to the updated interface.
Android Auto users are about to experience a remarkable change in their in-car listening experience. Google has started rolling out an updated media player as part of Android Auto 13.4, marking one of the bigger interface changes for the platform since its major update last year. First noted 9 to 5 Googlemany Android Auto users are starting to see this new design right now.
One of the first things you’ll notice in the updated player is a small album art moved to the left. In the previous design, the media progress bar was below the cover image. It is now parked to the right of the album art.

The above screenshot also shows that the text size has been reduced slightly and the player buttons now span the full width of the screen. The update also introduces a new font. Overall, this new look definitely feels cleaner than before, although it can look a little too plain with so much space.
While the screenshot depicts Spotify’s media player UI, it’s fair to assume that the same UI tweaks will apply to other streaming apps like YouTube Music and Apple Music, as well as all streams. Apps on Android Auto share a consistent UI.
9 to 5 Google also speculates that this redesign could pave the way for Google’s rumored “Car Media” feature, which would allow Android Auto to handle native car media, including radio stations. For now, if you’re using Android Auto 13.4, keep an eye out for this new look.
