YouTube Music adds “Samples” to artist pages

In 2023YouTube Music has introduced the Samples feed as a “personalized music discovery feature” and is now accessible from artist pages.

The app’s second tab, Samples, shows “a feed of short-form video segments to get you to your new favorite music.” It is clearly inspired by YouTube Shorts in terms of user interface and experience.

Powered by the world’s largest catalog of music videos, this personalized feed will explore the depths and breadth of the YouTube Music library, so whether it’s the latest release from an up-and-coming artist or a deep musician, there’s always something new to listen to. Cut from a legacy artist, we think you’ll really like it.

In YouTube Music for iOS, we see a new “Shorts” button in the top bar for sharing and searching. A click launches a Sample feed of short-form videos of just that artist’s songs.

It’s a nice and quick way to preview a few songs from a new artist before diving into their full discography. The samples are already meant to “give a glimpse into the artist, the video and the feel of the song.”

Speaking of discovery, YouTube Music recently did A carousel where you can browse the best songs on that page.

The Samples button on artist pages does not yet appear in YouTube Music for Android.

In other YouTube Music developments, speed dial is finally available on Android tablets. Until recently, YTM stuck to the old Listen interface. This is a 1×9 carousel with three pages.
