Zhang: Fury Vs. Joshua “Means Nothing” Now

Zhilei Zhang says a fight between Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua “doesn’t mean much” at this point in their careers. It’s like, who cares? These guys are fighting for cash in a meaningless match. If Turki Al-Sheikh wanted to be tough, he’d make Fury & Joshua earn their dough by first walking over a bed of hot coals and facing Martin Bakole.

Zhang notes that the two British heavyweights had talked about the fight years ago when they both held world titles, but now that they don’t, they continue to talk. He sees Joshua-Fury as a fight that will only prove who is one of the best heavyweights in the UK, not the best.

In order for Joshua vs. Fury fights to prove who the best British heavyweight is, they must defeat Daniel Dubois, Moses Itauma and Fabio Wardley.

It is doubtful that either of them can defeat these three young lions. Joshua (28-4, 25 KOs) has already failed in his fight against Dubois, winning in the fifth round on September 21 in front of a crowd of 90,000 fans at Wembley Stadium in London. Unsurprisingly, Fury doesn’t want to mess with Dubois. He knows his limitations.

The whole purpose behind Fury’s fight with Joshua is for cash. That’s it – just the dough. Neither of them need the extra money, but they won’t turn it down.

A meaningless fight

“Usyk is absolutely undisputed and I think he gave a much better performance than in the first match. I had it one-sided. I think he is the king of the heavyweight division,” said Zhilei Zhang Secondarytalking about Oleksandr Usyk’s win over Tyson Fury last week.

“I don’t think this fight means much in terms of belts and championships because this fight has been talked about for years,” Zhang said of a fight between Fury and Anthony Joshua. “When they both had belts, it was discussed. Now, none of them have belts and they’re still talking about it.

“I think it’s a good way to see who is one of the best heavyweights in the UK, but other than that, I don’t see any point to this fight other than brio,” Zhang said.

It’s not like Fury and Joshua are washed up at this stage of their careers. They were never as good as their fans thought. Neither beat consistent fighters like Martin Bakole or Daniel Dubois during their careers.

AJ and Gypsy King took advantage of the weak opposition around them and were carefully matched by their supporters.

It would be better if Fury and Joshua beat someone first before they meet in their “Battle of Britain” fight in 2025, but they probably won’t be bothered. Their confidence levels must be at an all-time low and they won’t want to take the chance of losing to someone else. Joshua already had a whole package of fights to rebuild and it didn’t help. Fury hasn’t beaten a talented fighter in years.
